Two years after earning a Ph.D. from the School of Building Construction at Georgia Tech, Leonardo García, Augment's Chief Digitization Officer returned to the institution as a part-time lecturer. In his role, he teaches courses focused on the latest technological advancements in construction and facilities management, including a class titled “Technology Applications in Construction.” This course introduces students to innovative tools and techniques that are transforming the field, such as robotics, digital twins, laser scanning, and drones. Each class covers the theoretical foundations and real-world applications of these technologies, emphasizing the role of digital and automated tools in enhancing efficiency and accuracy in construction and facilities management. Leonardo’s courses are designed to be highly interactive, providing students with hands-on experience that prepares them for careers in a rapidly evolving industry. By working directly with these advanced technologies, students gain practical skills and insights that bridge classroom learning with industry applications. This experiential approach not only enriches students’ understanding of each tool but also helps them develop adaptability and a forward-thinking mindset—qualities essential for succeeding in today’s tech-driven construction environment. As these technologies become central to modern construction and facilities management, courses like those Leonardo leads play a crucial role in equipping the next generation of professionals with the expertise to thrive in this dynamic field.
